The Swarm stirs - Painting a Custom Zerg Army for StarCraft

Diving into the newly released StarCraft miniature game with a full Zerg force has been a complete blast, especially since it provided the perfect opportunity to experiment with enamels for the very first time . Combining the contents of the Founder's Edition with an additional box of Hydralisks, the goal was to craft a menacing swarm that felt organic and unified while taking advantage of enamel washes to bring out the deep textures of chitin, flesh, and creep . To lock down the organic tones across the army, I relied on a combination of speed pain…

Aleph OperationS - the Mazebreaker update

Prepping for Interplanetario in August is always a huge motivator to get a fully painted, cohesive list onto the table. For this year’s force, I focused on bringing my Operations Subsection of Aleph up to tournament standard, building around a crisp purple and warm cream palette tied together with glowing magenta accents on tech-panel bases. The core list includes heavy-hitters like the Asura alongside the Sharvara dog remote, backed up by essential mid-field skirmishers like the Naga and Dasyus. To give the force a uniform look across both human-scale …

Myth and Majesty of the State Empire

As the judicial and security arm of the StateEmpire, their presence on the tabletop needs to feel both oppressive and deeply rooted in historical prestige. For this force, my goal was to step away from standard sci-fi tropes and lean into a scheme that recalls traditional Chinese aesthetics instead of the more militaristic presence of the Invincible Army. The foundation of the entire army rests on a terracotta color for t…

Into the Woods: Painting Endor’s Tempest Force

There is something iconic about the way the pristine white of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps clashes against the deep greens and browns of a forest moon. For my latest project, I’ve been working through a Tempest Force themed army, and I really wanted to capture that feeling of a long-term occupation where the environment has started to leave its mark on the gear.   The standard squads were essential to the project, as they provide that visual baseline for the entire Tempest Force. To differentiate the units on the tabletop, I incorporated subtle squad…
