Into the Woods: Painting Endor’s Tempest Force

There is something iconic about the way the pristine white of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps clashes against the deep greens and browns of a forest moon. For my latest project, I’ve been working through a Tempest Force themed army, and I really wanted to capture that feeling of a long-term occupation where the environment has started to leave its mark on the gear.   The standard squads were essential to the project, as they provide that visual baseline for the entire Tempest Force. To differentiate the units on the tabletop, I incorporated subtle squad…

Tempest arrives

After AMG dropped the ball on shatterpoint last month my local community has seen a resurgence of interest in SW Legion. Several of the old players seem to be coming to the game again and we decided to give the new edition a try. I already own a significant CIS force, but I've always been interested in having an empire army. Recently one local distributor made a massive sale of 1.0 material and I managed to get my hands on a very solid amount of imperial units for a few bucks. One of the most discounted units were the AT-STs so I thought it would be…

Peace and security for the galaxy

Keeping up with my Empire squad for Shatterpoint, this week I've been working on Director Krennic's squad and the Inferno Squad.  I love Krennic's character in the movies and his most recent appearance in Andor, and the model for shatterpoint really captures the look of Ben Mendelson on the role. The miniature is simple yet imposing and menacing. I love the fact that the pin-up for the card has a blaster in his hand, but the sculptors decided it was not necessary for him to be armed to transmit his aura of power.  This set of miniatures was …

If you only knew the power of the Dark Side

Keeping up with my Shatterpoint painting, after finishing my core box I bought some expansions to allow me to play as the Empire. I got one pretty sweet deal for the Darth Vader box and the Inferno Squad box, so I'm currently working on building a complete functional imperial squad. One of the hardest things about painting Star Wars is that there are a lot of pure white and pure black elements that are particularly difficult to paint if you want them looking right. Particularly because, being pop culture references, everybody knows pretty well how t…

Mandalorian civil war

Recently my gaming group has had a renewed interest is Star Wars Shatterpoint. We saw that Atomic Mass had updated several old profiles of the game and decided to give it a go again with some new players. After some demos, and seing that we were probably going to play this again, I decided to invest some time in painting the remaining parts of my base set that were still just primed.  I had not painted any of the mandalorians on the base set, hoping maybe to sell them off one day, but as the game has not come out with any new base box and everyone playi…
