The deeper mines - painting Mounthaven

There is a timeless joy in painting fantasy dwarves, but when it came time to tackle the new Warcrow Mounthaven infantry, I knew I wanted to push past the traditional glinting steel and bright golden braids. The sculpts themselves possess a rugged, heavy-armored presence that practically begs for a darker, more subterranean story. To capture that subterranean grit, I decided to pull thematic inspiration from classic fantasy archetypes: the grim, ash-skinned Duergar and the tyrannical red-and-bronze aesthetics of Chaos Dwarves. Engines of War

Lately I've been working on my WarRig for Warcrow. It was the last remaining unit for my Hegemony of Embersig army and it was quite a daunting proposition as it was quite a big and complex model. The model is spectacular in its construction as both the internal pilots are sculpted in amazing detail. It's a bit of a shame that the cockpit plate completely blocked the view of the pilots, so I decided to convert mine a bit. I added some magnets on the front of the cockpit that allowed the front plate to be removed, but also, made it so that when as…

Holding the line

The second wave of acquisitios for my Warcrow Hegemony force included the Beyond Winds of the North box, which added the dwarves to the Hegemony lineup and two of my favorite units in the game as a whole: the Bulwarks and the Aggressors. These are some of the most badass miniatures of the Warcrow range in my opinion, they are obviously reminiscent of the Empire swordsmen from the old Warhammer Fantasy, but the quality of the sculpts is miles away. For the areas of the vest, I decided to go for the same colors of my human nobility Blood Bowl team, with s…

Scouting for the Kin

This christmas one of my presents was a Votann Yaegir kill team. I had been dabbling in kill team the last year as I was interested on their solo and coop rules. Got me a box of the most recent Kill Team edition and got to play some small games. While it is in no way my favourite game, the miniatures are always really nice and the Votann in particular could proof useful for me in the future if I decide to dabble more into 40k. As I did previously with my miners, my big regiments games are my test bed for Speed Paints, so these were no exception. The obj…
