7 days to Rise the Kage

So, if you recall my last post you remember I had recently got my hands on both Rise of the Kage and Docks of Ryu. The thing is I'm just about to travel back to Spain for a long time and I was using some paints on this project from local brazilian manufacturers. So I came with a crazy idea... could I actually manage to paint both the game and expansion before I went back to spain?

It was the 7th of November when I decided that I would try and paint all the minis in the game before my depature date on the 17th. Obviously quality wise the minis are not on my usual level of detail as I had to rush many things but they are good enough for tabletop play which was the original idea. Also it's the 13th so I managed to do it in 7 days which for me is a completely insane time frame and gave me an idea of how fast I could actually paint a game to tabletop condition.

Rise of the Kage and Docks of Ryu painted!!

Green was used as a unifying color across all troops. The green skirt is the only element that ties all troops as belonging to a same authority.

The Musha Shugyo samurais were the hardest to do, taking almost 2 of the 7 days.

I want to try to add some tatoos to the dock guards to make them pop a bit more with the extra time.

The samurai ladies will probably be retouched, I want to adjust the skin hues a bit and add some flowers to their kimonos.

The dock's veterans were the last ones to be done

And for those of you who like this things some progress pictures.

Day 1 - Komomos

Day 2, amber level guards

Day 3 - Amber level still.

Day 3 - Start of the Red level Samurai

Day 4 - Samurai

Day 4 - Samurai

Day 5 - Guards

Day 6 - Dock guards

Day 7 - Dock Guards (the veterans where done here too, no photo sorry)

Ninja ambush!

Last week I got Rise of the Kage and it's Docks of Ryu from a Miniature Market sale. I was eyeing this game for a long time as it remembered a game I use to play a lot with my friends back in Spain called Tenchu.

The game is all about ninja's infiltrating in building performing missions and assassinations while an Overlord player controls the guards and tries to stop them down.

Minato and Kenta are ambushed from all sides by ninja!
From the painting side this game provided a challenge for me. Usually color theory recomends to use vibrant colors in heroes and dark colors in villains, but in this case, the ninja's are supposed to be unconspicuous and conceallable so I had to use unsaturated colors and and overall dark pallete while still giving them some way to be easily recognized by their players on the board.

I decided to assign them a color based on their clan. Dark red, blue and necromantic purple for each 2 ninjas. Also had to drop my initial idea of using metallic colors as they made them stand out too much, so it was non-metals from now on.

The process was pretty fun actually. The minis have tons of details and each ninja really felt different from the others.

The Bleeding Moon clan and Shizuka from the Long Shadow

Kouhei from the Long Shadow Clan, with the North Star clan shinobi.

Bosses allowed for more vibrant colours in contrast. These two are Minato from the Docks expansion and Kenta from the main game.

Brighton defended!

At last I managed to finished the Battle of Brighton Scouts for the allies and the Blight so my Battle of Brighton set is complete!

The allied Aviation forces

The Blight Zeppelin strike force
Some shots of the scouts for both sides:

I also finished the water monster from Impact in Gyarados colors. I made very low contrast highlights on this one and seems the camera isn't catching it well. Some day I need to learn to correctly photograph my miniatures instead of using my lousy cellphone. (XD)

The mini-boss Zombie from Super Dungeon was done just in time for a halloween dungeon delve.

Also did the Blight hound trainers this week. Planning on finishing all the dogs next week to close all troops from Second Wave.

Heroes of the plague

Hi all.
This week I decided to start making some comission paintings. If you are from São Paulo and also want a game painted, contact me and we can talk it out!

My first job was a set of Zombicide heroes from Black Plague.

It was a pretty fun project for a change. Still I must say it takes some practice painting eyes on 28mm miniatures again after so much chibi painting.

The warrior was pretty daunting at first but in the end was the most fun to paint.

Painting: XCom - The Boardgame

After hours and hours playing Dragon Age Inquisition, I managed to find some time to paint my recently acquired XCom boardgame miniatures. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the game and my wife totally got into the mood of the timed actions.

So hoping to make the next game even more immersive, I went on to paint the troopers and UFOs.

Space Invaders
Alien saucers in 5 colorful and totally alien colors.

X-Com jets

Heavy troopers Steffan, Magalhães and Vladimir

Support troopers Ziswiler, Nascimento and Smith

Assault Troopers Brahmbatt, Riera and Papadakis

Snipers Amelie, Xiu Han and Tsubame
Group Shot!
