Last year I participated in a promotion campaign for Corvus Belli, for the launch of the new Imperial Service Sectorial for Yujing. This new army focuses on a faction of policemen of the empire controlling dissenters and investigating insurrection in the ranks. When they came, CB sent me their TAG as model to show to my viewers but I didn't have the rest of the army, so I grabbed some old models for the faction that were going out of print and could get my hands on for some small cash.
The Celestial Guard were my test models to get the color scheme for the faction. I wanted to make sure they could mix well with the rest of my Yujing models which are painted terracota and green. When testing I noticed the terracota make them look too flashy and I wanted this army to have a darker, somber look, so instead I went for a black armor with green underalls. Some gold details were to identify them as having imperial favour.
These are all old models, as I really liked their helmets way more than the currently available. For some reason the new model helmets look like power rangers and completely break the menacing feel for me.
Next in line was Taowu. The Aristo had received an infinity miniature that was very ominous and menacing and felt right at home with the feel I wanted for the army.
I was tempted to go with the classic white suit, but wanted to do something different. Instead I searched online for yakuza images to inspire me and behold I found some images from the Yakuza videogame of very menacing people using very colorful wine suits.
I combined that with some jade green and gold to give him the imperial favour colours and suddenly this daddy is ready to mastermind his way to the table.
Next were the Wuming. To be fair I really liked the older Wuming. They had a very clean design and their helmets gave them the "prisoner of the armor" look. The new ones go with their helmet off and many view this as a design flaw as it goes against their lore of making them unidentifiable numbers.
Still, once I painted the miniatures I must say I ended liking them a lot. They have a very cool cyberpunk vibe and look both professional and dangerous. Also for some reason the HMG guy has a really strong resemblance to me when I take off my glasses.
The Zanying has become one of my favourite miniatures of the army. He's a very powerful hacker that can bring a lot of support to the board and works well in tandem with the WuMing. Her color scheme blends the terracota armor from my yujing with all the Imperial Service colors and her cloak and helmet look great on the field.
The LongWang is the main TAG from the ISS and also sports the police black over the usual yujing terracota armor. Its a very simple design so I added some kanji and markings to give some visual interest to the otherwise flat armor panels.
And to finish this first batch we have the Kanren. These are great miniatures that are getting a complete 180º redesign with the relaunch of the army. Still, the original ones still look dope and have a great inquisitor/investigator vibe, particularly the girl.
I really like how the color combination turned out on them as they look something more like high class investigators than actual policemen.
