Orbital debris fields

This was a small side project I did when I was working on my Dropfleet commander fleets back during first edition. I wanted to have some terrain for my space games to add some personality to the board. 

I started with some plasticard sheets where I pinned several spare parts from my dropfleet and heavy gear sprue, and added some cork to act as meteorites. Pinning them between them gave the feel of them floating over the base and helped sell the illusion of a densely packed field of debris where some space combat was taking place.

For the painting step, I decided to go with muted colors on the spaceship wreck to prevent it to draw too much attention from the actual players. I wanted however to make sure that it was clear to the eye that those were wrecked ships, so I added on the "broken" parts of the ship some orange glow to reflect damage from heat weapons like lasers.

The base was just printed black and had some stars scattered around to fit with my space board.
