Chronicles of the Fall - Sand People

Eldfall Chronicles has been a little fun side project for me the last months. I got convinced by my friend Marina into this. She pretty much told me "It's Infinity but in a fantasy setting and with Waifus". And of course I just had to sign up for it immediately.

I decided to go with Sand People for my faction as their style is very different to what I usually paint and their magic opened a lot of possibilities for OSL techniques.

To up up the ante, I had been learning slapchop with my Votann dwarves for a while so with these I wanted to try to paint this band fully with speed paints to see If I could achieve similar results to what I could get with regular paints.

I could say thay I was gladly surprised with the results, speedpaints work great for basecoats and set enough rendering that you can just later pick up with some directed highlights for extra contrast. Add some OSL effects and suddenly it doesn't look like this mini took no time at all in painting. I was even surprised at the quality of the whites I could achieve here compared to the ones I got on my infinity miniatures. This ones feel cleaner and brighter.

I also had some 3d plants and pumpkin that I added to the bases to give them a bit more of personality. In the end they ended up being a fun topic in our gaming group, as the people kept wondering how pumpkins were growing on desert soil, but hey, it's a magical world.

The golems and the gargoyles were my test pieces to see the different brown colors that the range could offer. They were painted a bit carelessly but as they are just summons I decided to not worry too much for the finished result. My only gripe with them is that on some areas of the miniature, the paint ended up pooling a bit and I couldn't later find a color that could correct it without feeling out of place.

My last model was the Colossus. I got the special limited edition one from Marina as a gift for joining in early to the community, and from the beggininig I had a clear vision for her. I didn't want for her to look like a bronze statue but as an anime style Sphinx. I searched for some references around and ended up with violet hair and a blue-yellow stripped color for the cape with egyptian vibes.

For the body I used lioness colors for reference, and decided that the cracks on the "bronze" skin would let some green magic glow out, to remind that she is just a magic construct and not a real creature.
