Scouting for the Kin

This christmas one of my presents was a Votann Yaegir kill team. I had been dabbling in kill team the last year as I was interested on their solo and coop rules. Got me a box of the most recent Kill Team edition and got to play some small games.

While it is in no way my favourite game, the miniatures are always really nice and the Votann in particular could proof useful for me in the future if I decide to dabble more into 40k. As I did previously with my miners, my big regiments games are my test bed for Speed Paints, so these were no exception. The objective was not to make an exceptional paintjob, but to get them painted and on the table with a decent quality as fast as I could.

For these guys I decided to change a bit the color scheme. I was sure that I wanted them having leather trenchcoats so the bone tone on the armor was going to prove difficult to tell apart. For that reason I decided to change the armor into a camo green, expecting that I could use the other colors in the miniature and the base to make sure they blended with the rest of the army.

In my case, I decided to keep the bone on the inner side of the trenchcoat and on the shoulder reinforcement of the trenchcoat. The bases were a bit more complicated, as the Yaegir use really small bases that left very little space for glowy purple minerals like I used on my other kyn. For that reason I ended up using some glowy pink plants I had from my previous dark elves projects that happen to fit the color pretty closely and still look like underground flora.

This week I also worked on my kyn terminators. These are the only miniatures from my Votann that are not speedpainted as I wanted them to be very black and solid colors, only with some edge highlights on the armor.

I own 4 squads of these so I decided to color code them to be easily identifiable on the battlefield. Those with plasma use the closed helmet and those with volkites use the open one, each of them has in turn a red squad and a yellow squad, identifiable by their knee-cap colour. Red squads use power swords and yellow squads use power fists, thus giving me a squad each of each possible weapon combination. Probably the worst option for tournament play but great for paintjob variety.
